Default Members Car Stolen - Rego FPV-21N

Hi all,

I thought it prudent to advise that in the early hours of this morning my much loved 2014 black FG Mk2 FPV GT was stolen from my home.

It was captured on high quality CCTV and the ease with which they stole the vehicle astounded me!

The two individuals were able to defeat the central locking and alarm, the vehicle was then rolled down the driveway a short distance where it took around 5 minutes for them to start the car and drive it away.

Perhaps you could circulate this throughout the club to hopefully make our members more aware, I would hate for any other member to go through this.

Kind regards and stay safe,

Kingsley Stewart

Thats a shocker, sad to hear. Is it worthwhile making the CCTV public in the hope someone might recognise something

Car has been recovered
Owners says car doesn't look like any damage but will take to smash repairs for further assessment.
Maybe just a joy ride.
Thanks for your interest.

Lots of effort for a joy ride.

Glad it has been recovered, and from the sounds of it "intact".

I would still have concerns, no one seems to steal a car without revving the crap out of it I am sure......

Is there any way of having the recent computer history bought up to see speeds and revs reached ?

They do it with trucks for warranty.
And there was a thread about an insurance claim denied after accessing the computer showing redline in 2nd and 3rd gear immediately prior to crashing (well exceeding the 50kph limit).

I wouldn't want to give up my pride and joy, but in saying that I'd want some sort of warranty or guarantee as to the mechanicals as they are not as easily visable as a buckled rim or panel damage.

I can't understand how these guys got it open without the alarm going off, then got it started within 5 minutes. They must've been gunning for something more than a joyride with that kind of knowledge - surely.

Only way to steal one of these by driving it away is with a key.

The vehicle is yet to be fingerprinted and DNA tested. Unsure whether the local Police have recognised them from CCTV footage.

Had thought about that but am concerned if I make it public others may understand the method of stealing it and I'd hate to see it happen to someone else.

It was actually far quicker than 5 minutes when I later looked at the time line on the CCTV footage.

I bought the car new and it came with 2 keys, I have both in my possession.
The vehicle has only been to 3 businesses over the two years I have owned it, my detailer, mechanic and auto electrician. All are considered family friends and have worked on our cars for many, many years.

From the CCTV footage I can verify that no key was used, it has everyone baffled.

Once it's back in my possession I will be having the computer history checked.

I'd be interested when you find out eventually how they managed to get it started and drive it away.

That's my dilemma, the CCTV shows clearly how they gained access and their other actions but do I post it and let other thieves out there learn about it, then more cars go missing....

As a fellow Mk2 GT owner I'd be interested but I do see your point.

I am a bit confused here, "Steves TS50", (a 10 year member) posted his car was stolen and "Just Cruising" (new member) has claimed ownership of the car. Clarification??

Id post it, thieves network too so most of them would either know or will know how break in to them soon. As for the Police DNA testing the car I very much doubt they will, they will dust it for finger/palm prints.

I wouldn't post the footage, like you I'd be limiting the number of people who know how to do it

Glad to hear it's back and appears to be OK.

So from the footage, you say that you can determine how it was started / stolen...and that you do not want to post up the footage (which I understand)...however, the question remains - what can be done to prevent it from happening again (assuming it's not locked up in a garage etc)?

I have heard it all it takes is a scumbag employee at any car company to ask a few innocent questions and they soon have all the "tips" that make stealing cars easier. Remember in Sydney a few years ago in the news, a Subaru mechanic was caught with a heap of STI spare rims and parts. He knew how to bypass the alarms and his offsider got him a print out of STI owners personal details.
