Default 92 Telstar Ghia

My son who is about to learn to drive is looking at a 92 Telstar Ghia. It has done 266000 km , this is a concern to me , should it be? Has anyone got any advice about this particular model?

Any info would be appreciated as he is only a first year apprentice and can not afford a major mistake!

Thanks

Kym

Wait for Dirty_hands to come online he's the Telstar guru!

Personally with cars of this age 266,000km is about right. Just give it a look over and a general drive. Or even pay RAA/RACV to give it a once over.

Thats generaly about the age where things start to wear out. Doesn't mean it can't and won't be a good vehicle. Just means you may have to replace some worn parts like engine mounts, exhaust/mufflers, autotrans condition, shocks, cv's etc.

I would advise you to pass on that car

as i dont know what you want to spend

have a look on ebay and carsales.com for idea of prices

the wages for a first year are not very good

best stay with a well known smaller 4 cylinder manual gearbox car
as such a toyota or camry
(ford laser, ask vippen)
have it checked out by a professional

Default check

This model is same as a mazda 626 in some ways
some have turbos some are V6

Below is the base model and the price you should pay for an average car
turbos and automatics are expensive to fix and run and cost more than the price below up to as much as $7000

you can buy a lot of good cars around that price {June 2006}

this is just a guide as prices vary from state to state and rego and kms etc
92 Telstar Ghia
4sp Automatic U Multi-point injected 4cyl 2.2 2184cc
Average Private Price+ $2,200 - $4,000
Trade In Price Guide+ $1,400 - $2,600

5sp Manual U Multi-point injected 4cyl 2.2 2184cc
Average Private Price+ $1,900 - $3,600
Trade In Price Guide+ $1,100 - $2,300

hope this helps
