Hi guys,
I was just wondering if anyone knew if the 2000 model AU futura had IRS? I have clunking from the rear right side. From what i have read the IRS would not be in this model but its hard to see as the car has been lowered and attempting to jack up from chasis does not lift the tyre. I am leaning towards the Watts Link live axle hopefully and also hopefully does not need the mounts. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Regards Toby. |

It was optional on every sedan, but chances are it'll have the solid axle.
If you really can't stick your head under there, could always check the VIN on http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do |

It has been lowered and all i can see is the petrol tank, i checked the site you linked entered vin number but i dont know how to check suspension from there. It shouldn't be that hard, look under (or put your hand up) just in front or behind the rear wheels.
If it's got leaf springs it's not IRS.

Ah ok it definitely does not have leaf springs, but there is coil suspension for IRS and non IRS, so i thought it didnt need leaf suspension......

Sorry guys not trying to be a problem, but i can see what appears to be cv joints coming to the wheels, now would this indicate IRS since its not a solid axle?
I am new to fixing suspension and try to learn quickly, i have done a lot of work on a Holden Jackaroo including pulling injecters out and installing new ones, so good information and good guides i try and do the work myself. All i ask is a little patience. |

G'day ..Unless modified it should be a Watts multi link IRS system on the rear..
Most regard it superior to the BA suspension.. ... If you have a good AU , you have a very good Falcon indeed.. Cheers Rod.. |

No Rod, the one with the watts linkage and the trailing arms is the live axle.
Though the option was the very good IRS that is in many ways superior to the Control Blade IRS introduced in the BA's. .

Next question, if from what i have read the mounts can go common problem, does anyone know where to source replacements from, i rang bursons and got quoted 943 for a pair, Bursons are a Superpro distributor. I have a knocking in rear passenger side when bumpy, but tends to get better with distance, so i am hoping its just shocks, but throwing out the question for cheap mounts just in case.
