The Gretsch White Falcon are a big guitar that needs to be commanded. It is a tribute to his skill as a player & I believe it was used in the studio for BinB sessions but too heavy for a live show, so back to the blonde Gretsch that we all know so well. Thanks to everybody for their contributions. It is difficult to pick a top 10 let alone 3 eh!

I've read my mums AC/DC book (can't remember what its called now).

And the thing is, Angus, as hard as he plays (you would think he's on speed?) Only ever liked chocolate milkshakes and cigarettes.

Well thats what book says???

That or Angus has a big portfolio of shares in Pepsi lol!

To do what uniquely Angus does is pure utter genius, ripping solo's while manically flailling on his back is stuff of dreams & magic lol!

To make things worse my book said something about green teeth. Apparently Angus was allergic to a toothbrush in his teen years.

I'll have to dig the book out, off hand I can't remember who wrote it.

You are both correct on all counts. But lets just list the three songs. There are other places on here to talk about the band.

Too many to list. I'm surprised Night Prowler hasn't been mentioned. This is ACDC right at the very top of their game and it comes with a great vocal from Bon Scott.

Interesting observation, many favourite songs from the Bon Scott era yet they made it really big (famous) after his death with Brian J.

My faves are Bon Scott songs, performed by Bon, Brian destroyed then, just listen to that version of ‘ride on’ that express posted! WTF.. it’s that bad I’m not even sure it’s Brian Johnson..
my favourite thing about the Brian Johnson era was that all their live performances were so much faster than the studio versions, always were better live

I've said (argued) to people on numerous previous occasions that Bon Scott WAS AC/DC. The only reason the band survived his death is because the Back in Black album was so good. Otherwise the band would have disbanded not long after Bon's death.

Although this is only a small sample size, I did a tally of the votes on AFF. Most people listed three songs, a couple four and a couple only one but zipping listed seven so I did not count his votes. Here is the summary for 95 votes:

Jailbreak - 7 votes BS
It's a long way to the top - 6 votes BS
Let there be rock - 5 votes BS
TNT - 5 votes BS
Dirt deeds done dirt cheap - 4 votes BS
Highway to hell - 4 votes BS
Whole lotta Rosie - 3 votes BS
If You Want Blood (You've Got It) - 3 votes BS
Sin City - 2 votes BS
Riff Raff - 2 votes BS
High voltage - 2 votes BS
Ain't No Fun (Waiting 'Round to Be a Millionaire) - 2 votes BS
Rock 'n Roll damnation - 2 votes BS
Walk all over you - 1 vote BS
Down payment blues - 1 vote BS
Shot down in flames - 1 vote BS
Baby please don't go - 1 vote BS
The Jack - 1 vote BS
Big Balls - 1 vote BS
Touch too much - 1 vote BS
Rock 'n' Roll Singer - 1 vote BS
Down Payment Blues - 1 vote BS
Night Prowler - 1 vote BS
Ride On - 1 vote BS
Get it hot - 1 vote BS
Soul Stripper - 1 vote BS
Shot down in flames - 1 vote BS

Shoot to thrill - 7 votes BinB
Hells Bells - 5 votes BinB
Back in Black - 3 votes BinB
You shook me all night long - 2 votes BinB

Thunderstruck - 9 votes NOT BS
For those about to rock (we salute you) - 2 votes NOT BS
Sink the pink - 1 vote Not BS
Who made who - 1 vote NOT BS
Chase the Ace - 1 vote NOT BS
D.T. - 1 vote NOT BS
Heatseeker - 1 vote NOT BS

Can I sit next to you girl - 1 vote pre-BS

Of 95 votes, 61 were for the Bon Scott era (64%) for 27 songs
33 were post Bon Scott era (35%) for 11 songs
1 was pre Bon Scott era (1%) for 1 song

If one looks at the Back in Black album it alone has 17 votes for 4 songs (18%)
=> for all the albums and songs post Back in Black they received 16 votes for 7 songs (17%) of which Thunderstruck alone has 9 votes.

Bon Scott was lead singer of AC/DC from 1974 to 1980 during which time they released 7 studio albums. The post Bon Scott AC/DC era is much longer where 10 albums were released over the space of 34 years. So much more material, so much less appeal (relatively speaking).

It clearly demonstrates the brilliance of AC/DC during their golden years. The music was raw and that so many songs from Bon's era appeal to people shows how the music was not one-dimensional. After Back in Black AC/DC may have had the odd good song every now end then. But their work is not to the same level as pre Back in Black.

I saw AC/DC in concert at the Melbourne tennis center in the mid 1990s. I thought the concert was 'meh'. Never been a fan of Brian Johnson.

A great read, enjoy -

http://teamrock.com/feature/2016-05-...-brian-johnson

At the end of day, imo it dont matter who's doing the vocals for ACDC, they sound supreme with both singers!

cheers, Maka
