i heard that the shifter will be a bit further back, but the bell housing matches the engine. not sure about transmission mount.

im pretty sure that your escort has a manual gearbox tunnel you will need to do some cutting and welding to fit it in. 5 speeds fit well into an auto tunnel.

Correct.

I think he means a Sierra 5-speed.

Gear lever sits a few inches further back and gearbox mounts need modification. Not exactly rocket-science.

Depends what you mean by "best". Some common upgrades include a celica/supra 5 speed box which have higher gear ratios than the sierra 5-speed and escort 4-speed, but you are required to get a different bellhousing for it to match the escort. Otherwise the sierra 5-speed is just a escort/cortina 4-speed with an over-drive ( or an extra gear ) as the first 4 gears are the same ratio. However many people prefer the 4speed as it is much stronger than the 5 speed and are much easier and cheaper to source.

hope this helps.

please correct me if im wrong guys
