Also rejoice if you have a servo with E85 on pump and a car with forced induction, my closest E85 servo is 50km away.

Who remembers when Caltex and United both had E85, and it was 20c/L cheaper than 98, now its some niche fuel only united sells and its 30c/L more expensive than 98

Also the old United 100, which was 98 + ethanol or something instead of 91 + ethanol like the common 94 is.

They were around when I had the T3 TE50, ran on it a few times, can't remember if I felt any difference....the fact I can't remember probably means "no difference".

Tell ya what though, if I had a car tuned to it, and then the next day it disappeared, and I had to pay for a retune, I'd be severely cheesed off.

Cheers for that info, seems NA might be a bit of a learning experience... or grab a Turbo Terry, ha!

There's this thread on the forums from way back as E85 primer:

https://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?p=3473619

Edit: imagine how long the Barra could last on such a clean fuel? A million kms, easy

United on Aberdeen/Shannon seems to have E85 in G-Town?
The one at Freshwater creek had the 94 E10 which smelled nicely like Vodka, I think it was United?

Trying to do a petrol station search online is pretty awful. The nice map here

https://www.travelvictoria.com.au/ge...ns/#map_canvas

doesn't mention Freshwater creek, and if I go to True Joke-L, they list Geelong has having 1733 different petrol stations (imagine the price competition and benefit for the consumer, lol)

https://www.truelocal.com.au/find/pe...geelong-region

there needs to be a pandemic which is fatal to useless web pages that regurgitate the same information inaccurately in different confusing ways

Mind you got a 300g porterhouse and a beer for $19 NZD which was good going, you're doing good if you get that for sub $50 these days in Melbourne.
Your looking at around $35 kg for porterhouse or sirloin at the supermarket interestingly we were hoping for the beef schedule to get to 7kg but it's dropped to 6.05 ,so that's what a farmer gets paid what a beast kills out at so that's basically 50% of its live weight so that's 29$ a kg to process it......just as big a scam as fuel

Back to fuel prices the government said just recently that the excise tax they have been holding off (I think around 20c /litre) they are going to have to put back on as it's costing them too much? WTF it's a tax it's not costing them anything!

It's election year so normally it's a fake promise smorgasbord so it will be interesting to see if they put it back on because it will be like political suicide lol

Excise is used to maintain transport infrastructure and the likes. They would have had to divert funds from other areas to pay for the black hole in the mean time. So that is the cost. And if they decided to not fill the hole and leave infra to deteriorate, you'll pay down the line. Either way you look at it, you have to pay.

I had a couple NZ customers and while they all hated 'Saint Jacinda of the Woke', she kept getting elected so we'll have to see this year at their general election how NZ votes.

If fuel excise they collected was actually used on the roads they'd all be made out of gold with men dressed in suits and fedoras polishing them by hand every 50 meters

We don't have roads, we got goat tracks in this absolute clown show.

They've already done that .....leave the infra to deteriorate, and they've been siphoning funds out of there for decades ....but your right we're paying for it

They were asked about it before Xmas and they said they were looking at bringing it back in end of January.....but their popularity is fading fast so I wouldn't be surprised if they fold

Diesel pump price in NZ had no relief but they dropped road user charges (mileage tax) from $780/10,000km to around $560 per 10k.
My local diesel price is $2.17/litre.

Ouch. I was averaging 30,000km+ a year in my diesel Focus just commuting to/from work - thats $2300+ in extra rego costs.

I'm assuming thats on top of registration fees et al?

They're supposed to be fazing the RUC charges back in soon so we'll get a double whammy .....the road transport federation reckon a lot of trucking outfits will fold especially the ones that can't pass the costs on

Yeah, regos not too bad for my Land Cruiser around $200/year I think.
But to run my diesel Land Cruiser at 11l/100km is about $20 cheaper per 1000km than my old Lexus LX470 at 14.5 per 100.
So diesel really makes no sense even pulling big weights when purchase price is taken into consideration.
I’m doing around 50k/year split between 30k in the Land Cruiser and 20k in a Peugeot 406 diesel with the speedo disconnected returning 5.2l per 100km.
But not for too much longer before I bail outa the ****hole as it slides further towards South Africa/Zimbabwe.
Currently have that E38 750i on the market. It would be cheaper to daily than my Land Cruiser at around 10l per 100 with 91 at around $2.23/litre. Can get that V12 down to under 9 on a trip at 100kmh.

That’s what happened in Aus too. There’s a heap of small to medium regional operators here that have just decided to give it away fuel cost driver shortage etc
Just to name too of many
Kitco Transport of Koo Wee Rup in Victoria. The back of their trailers under Koo Wee Rup were marked where’s the fox hat
K and S Fuller in Brisbane

They’re dozens of others ..it’s just too hard.
They don’t have the resources to put up detailed proposals to govco to buy subsidised electric trucks so the big guys get bigger

The last couple of years there has been a rise in tow ball queens under cutting trucking companies.
Guys in utes or small 2 axle jappa trucks towing trailers moving cars etc around the country.
I can’t see these guys lasting.

The tossers have been watching too many of those American tv shows.
Is Amazon established over there?
They have slaves in cars and vans doing four hour delivery blocks of internet buy products from their dc to consumers homes. Load you up with 45 parcel deliveries you get paid a fixed four hour payment.
You supply the car or van.
Makes Amazon more than competitive with big parcel operators here Aussie Post Startrek FedEx / TNT etc etc a downward spiral

So just like a domino’s pizza driver but they have to drive long distance?
These guys appear to use FB to get work.
Mostly move cars around, but what ever fits in their Ute or trailer.
Going rate to get a car from Auckland to Christchurch for a trucking company is around $1500. To do it for that price running a Ute and trailer isn’t worth it, unless they want to work for $15/hr. False economy but I imagine the guys doing it will take 6 to 12 months to figure that out.

Yeah that would be right 15 an hour.
Trouble is the more kilometres you do the more you wear out the vehicle.
The gig economy can work say for retired semi retired people where it is cash positive for a relatively low number of kms and hours per week but as a full employment substitute it’s just leveraging an asset and reducing its value rapidly

Gig economy is an absolute load of **** - one of the guys at TAFE was contemplating doing some uber work and I reckon its a waste of time and wear/tear on his car for what you actually get paid.

Unless you want to do AM work doing the King Street CBD jobs picking up the dregs of society after a night out on the gear.

I was up in inner city South Brisbane and Westend today
Plenty of Uber door dash menulog guys running round on bicycles
Probably works
Fuel cost zero
Insurance cost zero
R and M sfa
Biggest hazard would be the amount of people getting round on those scooter/electric bike rigs all on the footpath

Should have seen it during COVID lockdowns in Melbourne CBD - they were the only people on the roads in the CBD on their e-bikes and scooters, was hundreds of them cruising around empty city streets doing pickups and drop offs to all the people in the apartment towers in the inner suburbs.
