valid points but when you start from a solid base, ride & power are easily overcome ...crap build quality is hard to overcome .

I've had a good run out of my 2 PXs but only keep them for 4 yrs or 100000ks, Simpson trips, Central Qld, Vic high country 4 wheel driving but nothing silly.
And if my Everest lets me down I'll be disappointed too, because of the Rangers I'm reasonably confident though.

Perhaps - but most people wouldn't know. They just think, "Toyota" and they think "reliability", and that is ultimately what most people want.

Perception is crap, but it is what people so often go by - and the perception of Ford from many people is not great, for various reasons.

Ford's focus on better quality will help, and if they can get it out there that their service can match that of the Euro brands (which people perceive as the pinnacle), they'll improve.

Everest Trend getting great reviews, very good value for money and being pitched directly against the Prado. Sales will continue to grow!

Recent Car Advice review against these two also picked Everest!

VX Prado is 82k Kakado is 92k other than reputation what makes the Toyota worth so much? ,
IF the Everest ends up with a good reputation also. does it all of a sudden become worth the money?

My dad just bought an Endeavour (Everest in India). Its slightly differently equipped missing out on the 20's in favour for 18's, GPS and the inverter in the rear. That appears to be all the difference. They also get the 147 KW motor and not the 143 KW motor we get.

Pricing is $68000 drive away which includes lifetime rego as they do there. The car itself is only $57k for the Titanium. He gets the car next week! Can't wait to do a road trip to the Himalayas later this year!

awards & favourable reviews from cash for comment journo's mean nothing ,..its another marketing tool used to create perception.

the Everest will be judged in 3-5 years time ,..at this point its an overhyped, overpriced made in Thailand SUV.
and before the masses come out and say others are successfuly manufacturing in the same country ,..take a look at Honda's relevance in todays market ,..they used to be the best of the Japs and built great cars now barely plodding along and down the toilet ,..better still look what happened to Hilux when they started building them there .

I agree with the Playdoh being overpriced for what it is (especially in top spec Kakadu) but the Everest Titanium is too.

FWIW, I was chatting with the husband of my wife's best friend the other day who I hadn't seen in ages and we were talking cars (as you do). He's just bought himself a new Playdoh Kakadu after trading in a 4 yo one and got it for $79K D/A.
Deals can be made (but I still wouldn't buy one..)

bought a 2012 Ranger new ,..good looking showpony ,..heaps of tech in it and plenty of power ,.got rid of it at 60,000klms ,..was falling apart, & let me down at least twice .build quality was rubbish
I can understand going the Everest if it were $50k drive away with all the bells & whistles ..but to buy one at $70k plus in front of a proven performer like a Prado,..you would have to be empty between the ears .
those engines are prone to early failure due to bad design and parts i had one explode going to the corner shop at 160.000.do the resrarch and you will find in europe and usa they recall and fix the problem but in oz you are on yout own

They did the same with the Hilux, not long aftr the PX was introduced, dropped it by about 8k.
When the new model was released it went back up though.
edit, I just looked at the link, it is the new model.

The prices in the article are probably not drive away, but it gives an idea.

Current Toyota Ad has the GXL Prado for $63990 drive away special.

Just make sure you check to see whether the fix has been carried out.

We have to get our heads around the fact Everest and Ranger success as vehicles are not judged by sales numbers in Australia, its worldwide sales is only relevant. These are international vehicles and not local orphans.

The only pricing there that is below the Everest is the GX 5 seaters and manual model.
None of which the Everest comes in.
