I have 2 Diesels at the moment - Wifes Daily (WK2 Grand Cherokee) and Mine (Current Mazda 6) and they where well worth the extra spend over the petrol version...
The Mazda gets 5.xx/100kms and is a great daily.. I love the instant pull down low and the fact that it has surprised a few cars from the lights...lol. As for the Grand Cherokee, we wanted something that could tow my boat, my old mans camper when we borrow it and go off road (Beach runs mainly). as I am not made of money, it also had to be the wife's daily driver as well she has always loved the Grand Cherokee's and Jeep where doing some good deals so went for a look.. Drive the Petrol V6.. Didn't like it, and the economy is apparently pretty average. Took the Diesel V6 for a run and we both where sold... Could hardly even tell its a diesel as well... Its just hit 1000km;s (1150km today actually) and is already averaging 9litres per 100km which we are happy with for a big car.. Her 2015 CRV we sold to get the GC was in the 12's for the same type of driving... We are extremely happy with both of our diesel cars, more so than I think we would have been with the petrol ones... The wifes next car will probably be diesel as well when we replace the GC....

I think quite a few of you are getting off track as far as the topic goes.
It orginally referred to an acticle in the Melb. Sun. It related to the fact that sales of full Diesel cars and SUV,s might be restricted in Australia like other countries because they are having trouble meeting emission requirements. Its not about how good my Diesel whatever is, or my wifes next car will be a Diesel (if their still able to sell them by then). As a matter of fact they can most likely meet the requirements running on Diesel/LPG or CNG which we have an abundance of.

If a diesel vehicle meets euro6 emission standards it will not need to be restricted. Any late model Diesel with a DPF or an adblue system will meet these emission standards and not need to be restricted.
