Default Tyre fire In Broadmeadows....How the hell did it start?

Heard about this on the 6pm news today and just found an article on it.

Up to 130,000 tyres have been on fire since 9am this morning at a tyre recycling plant in Broadmeadows, Melbourne.

What I dont get is there has not been one single mention of how this fire started?

Sure it was'nt arson was it???

Anyone got any inside info???

No inside info but how did they get away with having that much scrap ready to go up? If I had a local business that needed to shut I would be looking for some compensation. What I saw looked like negligence.

It was a pretty big fire. I flew into Melbourne at 9:15 this morning and it was massive as we flew right past it on the way into land

You probably even wouldn't notice it if the smoke was white , the air quality has been pretty average from bush fires lately, coming back from kilmore yesterday looking at the hills in the distance it was hazey as hell, no doubt its worse in other fire effected states.

Ye this is what i have been thinking.

Was it an inside job?

Probably only need to pour some petrol on one tyre and light it, the rest will go up in flames very easily......Rubber burns easily as it is made from crude oil.

A cfa volunteer workmate of mine that handles one of the helicopter fire bombers that was used on the blaze said it was an electric forklift that had shorted.

Ah o.k well that sort of makes sense i guess?

Must have been one hell of an electrical short though to start a fire like that?

The operator must have been injured some how also???

Maybe one of the workers left his hoverboard on charge beside the forklift?

The fire that was in the EVEREST was from a short. Doesn't take all that much. All you need is something that will catch to get an emergency.

If its the one I think your talking about. That was up the road in the next suburb. But that was a guy who dumped this trash on his property and lighting set it off. I don't remember the tyre yard going up previously.

Wonder if they're going to get insurence for all the damaged stock and the forklift???

The fuse was blowing out, so some rocket scientist replaced the fuse with a nail ( instead of finding out what the electrical issue was )l - causing a fire !

Damn faulty fuses, they are made with thin flimsy wire.
You would think that after all these years they would put thicker wire in them so they wouldn't keep blowing out like that.
.............I bet the nail survived the fire.

This sort of **** happens all the time with forklifts, no one wants to spend any money on them, a business around the corner keeps burning out starter motors on their forklift because the micro switch that stops it from starting in gear is toasted allowing it to start in gear, putting lots of load on the starter motor.

So when it ***** itself again its a big hoo haa and everyone needs to bend over backwards to get them another starter motor (non gear reduction type because its stronger, that you can't buy new anymore).

Not directly related to the actual cause of this fire, but I'd always heard the old one about bits of glass discarded by the roadside being potential causes of fires.

A few years ago I was helping my parents spring cleaning, and we had a waxed fruit box of bits & bobs out under the back verandah. Taking a breather, I noticed it was smoking, and snapped this photo just before it caught fire.

It can be bloody anything.
