some info regarding the LA platform it is based upon and the upcoming 300 will be.
Whilst it is an old article it does give a good insight into the amount of work being done on the platform.

Quote:
Most people have already become aware of the “LA platform” that will soon debut with the heavily revamped 2015 Dodge Challenger, and then later underpinning the next generation Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300. The first iterations of this platform have already debuted with the new Maserati Quattroporte and Maserati Ghibli.

While some suspension material differences between Maserati and Chrysler are possible (aluminum on one, cast iron or stamped steel on the other), we can still take a look at what general changes the new platform will bring with respect to the well known LX/LC/LD. Most notable is the front suspension change, LX uses the Mercedes Benz W220 S-class control arm front suspension design and its been completely removed from the new platform.

It has been replaced with a much lighter and more sporting high-mounted double wishbone quadrilateral set-up that not only provides luxury ride characteristics and light precision steering, but also pure bred handling capabilities. In the Maserati the shock towers, upper and lower control arms and uprights are all made of forged aluminum which are housed in an aluminum sub-frame.

The LX uses a 5-link rear suspension design that was pulled from the W210 Mercedes Benz E-class. While durable and smooth, this suspension was built with comfort as the priority and with that comes excess play and movement, which doesn’t bode well for handling, so its been completely removed as well.

The replacement is a “state of the art” 5-bar muli-link system with four suspension arms which has been developed to offer premium ride characteristics plus extreme sports performance handling. The Maseratis will use electronic adaptive Skyhook dampers at all four corners (SRT currently uses Bilstein, we expect this to continue) as well as anti roll bars and steel springs.

These new suspensions are what will allow SRT to build a Camaro Z/28 fighting Challenger T/A or ACR that is said to be shown next year, as the Challenger will be the first Chrysler Group vehicle to launch with the new architecture. Lets just hope that the race to better CAFE numbers via weight reduction means the Chrysler cars will use just as much forged aluminum components as their Maserati brothers.

NOT the 2015 Dodge Challenger

Chrysler spokespeople have gone on the record more than enough times recently to assure Challenger aficionados that the car is not going away after the 2014 model year. Nobody has assured this more than Ralph Gilles himself even a year ago saying the Challenger would not be made irrelevant and more recently at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show stating that the Challenger business has been very good to them and that the new car has so much potential because the current Challenger uses the oldest interior and electronics of the bunch.

Further in-depth reports from the buff books and various rumor mills have suggested that the new car would lose its current pudgy platform architecture for a new modified version that would help the Challenger escape some of its excess girth, wheelbase and poundage.

This new platform is said to be known as “LA” and the first thing we’d be willing to bet anything against is that it’ll allow the 2015+ Dodge Challenger to utilize the formidable ZF 8-speed automatic transmission which is slowly being rolled out to the current Hemi cars Chrysler offers. The various rumbling also go on to say that the car will lose approximately 3 inches of wheelbase, which would actually bring it to the same basic footprint as the current Chevy Camaro. This move, if true of course, would indicate that the Challenger will not be giving up its spot as the big muscle tourer, as the Camaro (and Mustang) will both be shrinking from their current wheelbases for their next generation. Basically all three of them will be stepping down a notch in size.

Apparently there is a ‘Cuda in the works to tackle the new Camaro and Mustang that will ride on a smaller RWD platform than the Challenger and info on that can be found here.

With the Challenger sizing down to a 113″ wheelbase, it would also lose some length, currently its 198″ long, while the camaro is 190″ long, so a quick possibility is that they shaved 4″ off the front and 4″ off the back. One rumor we heard was that the new 2015 Dodge Challenger has the same size interior as the current car but has a smaller trunk, so this would all essentially make sense in a perfect world.

The next thing we can speculate on is the weight loss of the new car, again the rumor mill expects around 300lbs to go missing on the 2015 Challenger but that number could be a little conservative. The new 2014 Maserati Quattroporte (part of the Fiat-Chrysler Empire) manages to weigh a staggering 900lbs LESS than its competitor the Mercedes Benz S-class AMG (4100lbs to 5000lbs). The Quattroporte uses a version (a big version, 207″) of the new Corporate RWD platform architecture with many weight saving tricks and most of that technology will likely find its way to the LA platform the 2015 Challenger will be getting.

All in all, we expect the 2015 Dodge Challenger to be a little bit smaller and built for its platform this time, not built around its platform like the current car. With a starting point like that we can only assume this car will have even more styling features from the 1970 Challenger without all the mid-section like the current car. It’ll also have a fantastic interior with the 8.4″ touchscreen, 7″ in-dash digital TFT screen and other features we can’t wait to see.

Engines will likely be the same as you get now, 3.6L Pentastar SE, 5.7L Hemi R/T, 6.4L Hemi SRT and the upcoming HellCat 6.2L Supercharged Hemi with 8-speed rev-matching automatics and the tried and true Tremec TR6060 6-speed manuals across the board with the V8′s.

I like the looks of both the Camaro and Challenger but the rear guards (Hip line) on the Camaro wreck them for me. they always make the back wheels look small and average. No matter what size they are. The 68's are unbeatable in that respect. GT500's look awesome in the flesh and with the right wheels look tougher than all of them in my opinion
