No one wants the 4 cylinder Amarok either.

There are a number of reasons not to buy the amarok. Price, no low range, smaller dealer network in rural areas, perception of higher servicing/parts cost etc.

something about Amarok looks "off" to me, it's like the wheels are too small for it....
or is it the ride height/body lift combination?

I wonder if Amarok's sales improve when Ford starts building them on the new Ranger platform....
Maybe buyers want a V6 diesel but not the one VW offers....is there a problem with it?

Nothing to do with the fact it is dated? They are ten years old now, and I don’t think the interior has had any updates. Infotainment set up resembles VE Commidore/FG Falcon.
I’m seeing ads for the sport line v6 at $52k over the past year which I don’t think is too bad...

Above review is for one of the cheapest ways of getting a V6 Amarok...however it's the lower powered version and around 8kW/50Nm more than the Ranger's 2.0L diesel 10speed auto and lacks much of the safety tech offered in Rangers plus no rear side airbags.....and VW servicing pricing is a joke.

Now if we assume Ford will offer an updated Lion v6 diesel as in F-150 in the US it's at approx 186kW/596Nm...even I'd buy that...

Quote:
The price of this one is $56,590 plus on-road costs, though at the time of writing it was subject to temporary campaign pricing of $53,990 drive-away, which should be the starting point from which you negotiate. That lines it up nicely with the volume-selling Ranger XLT and HiLux SR5.

The 3.0-litre V6 donk makes 165kW of power between 2500 and 4500rpm, and 550Nm of torque between 1500 and 2500rpm.

I wouldn’t call it hate. I don’t hate Kia and I don’t hate McDonalds or Target.

But it’s like this, if I want a cheap crap meal just because I’m hungry and don’t want to spend more than a couple of dollars, I’ll buy a cheeseburger. If I want to treat myself and eat like a king, I’ll spend some money and buy a nice steak.

Same applies to Kia. If I want to get from A to B economically, with basically zero character and I only want to spend a few dollars I’ll buy Kia. If I actually want to enjoy the drive and have a bit of enthusiasm for cars, I buy.... literally anything else.

Not necessarily 'anything', Hungry Jacks would love to sell as many $2 cheeseburgers as Maccas but unfortunately the masses have spoken and voted with their wallets, much like those who've chosen the black oval over the blue oval.
Same ****, but people prefer the former..

Well I hope that steak is prepared we'll, coz I don't like your chances of having any issues rectified..

I'll stick with the cheeseburger, rumour has it the steak is on the nose..

The beauty of choice Bent, people buy different things from different places at different prices.

I'm not defending Ford here, all I'm saying is that the price has been set for market segments,
if they want to play in those segments then they either match low prices or give buyers some reason
to pay a lot more.

The third choice is to create new markets and that's what you'll see in the next two years.....

Sorry, I think I need to clarify something here, my mistake. I know you compared the Kia sales with those of Ford like Fiesta, Mondeo, Focus etc

I’m not actually calling any of those Fords ‘steak’. They’re all crap too. Just slightly more expensive crap than Kia is offering.

And that's the issue here Mike, Ford is fishing with the wrong bait, those
products are already covered by others, what we need is new vehicles or,
more correctly new niches that the Asians simply have no concept/clue.

Kia has Stinger but they completely missed the market with TT V6
(Hyundai has their own Coyote V8) Any niche they look at is the same,
they just can't "see" them.....because of accountants and grouping markets.

On another note,
I was looking at Russell's quarterly chart and marvelled at Toyota's SUV strength.
Combined sales of Prado, Fortuner and Kluger are simply amazing (~17,600)
couple that with high value Hilux 4x4 sales and you got a lot of highly profitable sales.

Anything selling for $40K and up makes good money for car companies
and Toyota seems to have those in spades.

I'm sure that this is where Ford will be doubling down rather than chasing
losses in the $18K-$30K sales volume area.

Local production was of niches the Asians had no concept of. Coupe utilities, V8 RWD muscle, SUVs that handle and have full time AWD, all with great suspension tuning for Australia. Affordable - far more affordable than a 64K dual cab ute... Plenty of spares and widespread dealers

21C version: a single RWD/AWD platform that does sedan/wagon/SUV/ute/dualcab on a midsize platform, with electric/hybrid capability

The only reference I could find was in Russell's September sales where he mentions it's down 40.1%
so I'd say he didn't include as the number might hurt... although he put Endura at 90 sales...

Which is why I have a little chuckle to myself when the monthly ute figures are broken down and the 4x4 sales inserted to the passenger car segment to get a result, the fact that Toyota have so many different models in the top 10, its hardly surprising that they don't always hold that number one spot as their customers don't just buy one style in great numbers, but they're all big ticket items with good profit margins.
They can afford to burn a few dollars on Yaris, as it introduces the next generation to the brand.

The Acadia is in the SUV Medium chart about 2/3rds of the way down.
