Significant (well its not a XA GT-HO or the Surferoo)...

True... but interesting vehicle all the same...

The firsts are always special... aren't they??

XY codes for engine/trans/trim probably weren't set when the plate was stamped..

With the numbers / info you have Barra - could you confirm/deny that I might be possibly correct that its XY #1??

I've read a bit about the car and seen some awesome rare photos of it... (the one that comes to mind is a photo of Bill Bourke actually in the drivers seat, parked in the middle of the road underneath the Airport Freeway Overpass - I've got it around here somewhere....)

I think you'll find that it was a T stamped car - and that the 428ci was fitted after the car was produced and stamped...

Similarly to the Wayne Draper big block coupe... the good bits were fitted 'after' the productions stamping...

yep..the BB special was built as a normal 351 4V windsor auto (GJ chassis number) in Onyx black with steer, a/c, delete pins and stripes..then sent to US for the treatment..windback sunroof was added as it didn't exist as a factory option..plus of course the 428CJ..

the only legal factory registered 428's were the XT ute manual and XT Fairmont auto..these were probably the P & D engines that ended up in the hardtops..

Ah ok cool. I thought the BB XW was a T or K car but I thought maybe they had to change it when it came back for registration purposes. Ive got a model of it and have read an article that might have been in AMC.

Loftie, if you have that photo about could you email it or post it up? The BB XW is my fav Ford of all time, before P3's, coupes the lot.

Cool XY Fairmont

Hi guys
back in 1980 I bought an XY Fairmont 250 and a 4 speed toploader
it was a maroon colour with saddle trim
would this have been a special?
or did they do a few Fairmonts that way.
I havnt seen one since
I sold it for $700 back in 82
I bought it at Eastside Chrysler in Nunawading
and paid $1999 for it
Just thought Id ask as you lot seem to know your stuff
thanks John

I had a bit of a read into this...

The engines were not fitted in sequence... and infact I spoke to someone who has (and still has) an XY Sedan (11/70 build) with one of the early 250's in it... and his has a lower PV number than this car...

So they were definately not fitted in sequence... and i'd stand by that this is as close to number 1 XY produced, until I can find some numbers of an earlier car...

Well there is the proof of the 250ci 2V engine, that it did come out right at the beginning of the XY. not some months after.

Default Re: ID Plate Challenge - Can you work it out?

My wagon is PV 1066 XY falcon 500 wagon but it has a SVO number beginning with C Monza green two tone green interior 250 1v toploader ex Country Roads Board Kew. It also has xw doors fitted which leads me to believe I also have one of the first xy wagons produced. It has a siren mounted in the engine bay and radio of the time mounted under the dash as well as wiring that leads me to believe it was alarmed as well. Something big was bolted in the cargo area. It had a roof bar with hella round light in amber on the roof and amber lights mounted on the front bumper bar. Its been under full restoration for 18 months now back to factory specs and CRB specs and will be finished in around a year I hope should funds allow. I am having a lot of trouble finding the original trim to repair the two tone green bucket seats, any help would be appreciated.
