Not to mention now that ford has dropped to a 5.0 and holden just keeps going bigger...
Yeah, but the smaller capacity is also compensated by a supercharger, so it's not really "David vs Goliath" like the old days when Holden had the 308, and Ford had the 351 as their two top V8s.

The 427 (7.0L) which was used in the W427 is currently the biggest engine ever used in a production Holden/HSV, but the 6.0L is the biggest for a regular Holden, and doesn't look like it'll be getting an increase of displacement any time soon.

You also have to remember these engines are designed, and built by GM, so it's not really Holden that makes them bigger. The biggest engine Holden ever made was only 5.0L, and 5.7L if you include the stroker version of the 304 used in the VS GTS-R.

There's always been a false perception Holden make their engines bigger, and bigger when it's really not true at all. Going through history Holden have never really made a big capacity V8. All of their big capacity units come from the yanks.

If Holden were still making their own V8s they probably wouldn't be that much bigger than what Ford currently have. Most likely the same size actually.

Good point, the only thing I can pick wrong with your statement would be the faact that the holdens are actually using 6.3L V8's now. I'm not sure if that is reserved just for HSV's though/

i'd say it is quite fair to compare them, the 253 was directly marketed against fords 'big six'. (power of an 8 with economy of a six? or was it power of a six with economy of an 8?)
but it comes down to hp vs torque between the two.

Shared part made by the manufacturer but suits both Falcons / Commodores. EA-EL, VN-VS I'm guessing but a nice way to save money for the maker.

Not really sure what engine you're talking about mate. HSVs use 6.2Ls, but that's the biggest currently available.
