Default Running out of cars!! Write off?

On Boxing my day my wife had a nose to tail with a four wheel drive and the G6E Turbo is still at the panel beaters, so I have borrowed a mates ute so I can get to work and my wife and kids have been using my Fairmont.
Then yesterday she was turning into a friends driveway in my Fairmont and was shunted from behind and accross the foot path and into a fence.

Every one is okay, just some stiffness and bruising, but yesterday was a rather large impact and I think they might write my car off. Will have a good look at it tomorrow when business opens.

At what point do the insurance companies say its not worth fixing?

hell.....bad run, as long as everyones okay then that is the main thing

write off is usually within a couple of thou of replacement I think....sometimes the paint finish is the killer

Damage to boot and bull bar pushed back onto the bonnet. Car was resting on under carriage after front wheels dropped over edge of the retaining wall. Air bags did not go off.

There was no real need for the airbags to go off really ... would cost more to fix if they did.

You won't be able to really tell if they write it off ... it depends on the assessor and the criteria they have to go by.

I am glad the airbags didn't go off. Hope they don't write it off as I have a nice groove worn in the drivers seat. LOL

I know what you mean ... the AU is a comfy daily driver ... and surprisingly cheap to run. Used to have an AUII work ute.

crikey you are havin a bad run, well not that bad if every one is ok, after all you can always replace cars, does`nt look a lot of damage but labor is expensive, my guess would be it`s on a knife edge of write off, i hate to say it but actually i`d probably put a tenner on it you won`t see it again, good luck.

As soon as repairs go over the payout value figure it is written off no matter how good the condition of the car.

Talk to the assessor, if its a close call, you maybe able to keep the car by agreeing to keep the costs down, use some secondhand parts or forgoing repairing some minor damage, which you can repair later at your own expense.
You can also make deals to keep the wreck for parts/sale if you want to get another AU etc.

It is not an ideal solution but if you want to keep the car it may work.

Another thing to consider is when is the insurance due...if you just paid it and they write it off, that policy is over and you pay again for the replacement car on a new policy.

Common theme there is the wife. I'd be getting her a hummer and be done with it.

Might look at trading her in!!!

In her defence she has a pretty good driving record apart from the G6E on boxing day, The Fairmont wasn't her fault.

With the damage to the front and rear of the AU and with the price they are worth, I would dare say it will be a write off.

Yep, preparing for the worst. Having a look around to see what cars are about and how much it is going to cost me.

I know some insurance companys work to 75% of the insured price! For example if your car is insured for $4000 they will spend $3000 to fix it or send it to heaven (pickles)

End of the day regardless so many factors come into play, mood of assessor, what the damage is ect!

Is the Fairmont bent, or is it mainly plastic and moving panels (boot, bonnet, doors) that are dented? Moving panels can be replaced, plastic can be replaced, but if the car needs to be straightened, then the chances of it being sent to a wrecking yard are quite large.

Well it looks like I am going to lose my Fairmont. The panel shop thinks it will cost more to fix than what the car is worth. The rear of the car is twisted a bit. The gap around the rear right door is significantly less than the rear door on the left. Could not get the boot open but layed the rear seats down and felt for a gap between the spare wheel and wheel well but it was minimal at best. The front has more damage than I thought too. Bull bar bent onto bonnet, head light, spot light, front bar and scrape on front guard and front wheel.
Still have to wait for an official out come but it doesn't look good. :(

LOL I wish.

The boot has a bit of a lean to the right. Look down each side and you can see the difference. Even a slight variation in the roof line.
