Default 12V pick up in cabin

Hi All.

Where have you guys been picking up a 12V connection from within the cabin?

I dont really want to pull out my stereo, and just getting behind the ciggy
outlet by removing the gear stick boot was a contortionists delight.

Is there somewhere simple to do this.

I have a Nokia car kit that is bluetooth enabled, so I just want to hook
it up. I wont be running thru speakers of the stereo. Not yet anyway.

Any suggestions without me pulling the whole dash a part?

Cheers, Leakey

You can get the keys from ebay for like $5 to take out the stereo.. its a piece of cake with the keys.. you should be able to pick up a 12v connection from in there..
Also
Not sure if its 12V but if you take the glove box out (theres about 7 torx screws which hold it in place) u may be able to use the glove box light source..

You can also pick off 12V from the interior light. A god place to power the Satnav too.

Take it from the auxiliary port. Easy as pie to get to. Just take the driver side kick panel off from the side of the stereo, and reach your hand under there, unclip the loom from the auxiliary port, then pull the wires down. Gives you plenty of room.

If anyone plans to use the ciggie lighter power keep in mind it's always on, even with the car off/locked!

I was thinking about that too.

The Nokia wouldnt use too much power I am guessing, and I can still keep a conversation going after the car is turned off. I think its the go.

I am still a bit amazed that for such a modern car, there is no dedicated loom
for this, a part from the adaptor you can buy for the rear of the stereo.

Commodores, Falcons, Magnas all have them. Maybe it is an Australian thing?

Let you know how I go..

Leaky

Just remember, that Bluetooth forms a PAN - personal area network.
Imagine now, that if your bluetooth is still active, and you are in your house (car parked in the garage). You wouldn't be able to hear anything!

So I would suggest wiring it into the accessories.

Cheers

Wow that was so easy, now that I know how to take off the inner kick panels.

All hooked up and works a treat. No echo either, and I'm running a Blackberry through it. Ive set it up so that it asks for connection each time I get in, and I simply turn it off blutooth when I get in the house.

Let you all know if the battery drains too much. I'll be buying a set of those keys then, and going in through the stereo. But all is good for now.

Thanks for all of your help and advice.

Yep, you got that 100% right Warren...

Quite often I forget to disconnect. The range of the blutooth is about 30m!!
Phone rings - "hello? HELLO? H E L L O O O O? Then I realise it's still going thru the car, and my caller is talking to an empty car.

Must change that...

@Blake - my favourite DrWho! hmmm one of em anyway.

Not sure if this helps anyone but I just took out the center column of my AU Ghia and next to the gearshift are 2 unused blocks from the loom, 1 small and one large. Not sure what they are for or what they do, but the previous owner had also cut/drilled (very messily) a hole through the center storage box. Possible a connection point for 12volts??

Hey mate,
The auxiliary port is the 12V outlet, aka the cigarette lighter!

Does anyone know if there is a switched 12v power source somewhere in the cabin? The cigarette lighter is always powered.

theBlake: no - they are suggesting taking a supply from the rear of the cigarette lighter.

there is power in behind the glovebox. I put a cig lead socket in the glovebox from a send behind the box. I can't remember exactly where, but I remember there being a blank end somewhere with power to it.
