Default Help 1.6 distributor question

Hi guys, i have just purchased a one owner 1976 mk2 Escort Ghia and the distributor has 2 vacc ports 1 advance and the other retard, both are disconnected so engine is relying on mechanical advance only. Is this ok or should i be connecting them back up. Also looking to convert to electronic, can you buy electronic replacement or do i have to convert the originall. Also looking at where to buy Escort parts. Any advise welcome. Cheers Ferg.

unless the distributer has deen moded to be fully mechanical (Which sounds like its not) I would be reconnecting them

Scorcher does a great distributer for the 1600, a lot better than the original, I would give them a call or there are planty of options from the UK for the kent motor

Cheers mate, i might go for the scorcher. I can only find a blanked off port on the carb for the advance port but no port any where for the retard port, thats why i am a bit confused.
