has anyone used/tryed a hiclone?
are they as good as they make out or are they just a **** ?

the hyclone test on that graph was probably done in the cold air of 3am whilst the normal one at midday ing_sm

All I can say to this is, my partners young bloke had one in his EL and believed it made a difference.

As for me I'm still skeptical,but considering the cost to buy one for the advantage,well.....caviat emptor.

Well I have'nt seen any evidence to disprove the claims and I'm sure if someone had bought and found it totally untrue then....consumer affairs etc would have been onto it by now!

I have heard alot of people swear by them, and never anyone who brought one and didn't like it... Sounds like a crock of shit though.

but also you have to remember the "performance gain" might be psychological...

what about if you did a test, got someone to drive the same car 10 times, with 1 time having the hyclone fitted? bet you they wouldnt be able to tell you which time it was on the engine.

i wont believe it until they can do multiple dyno tests on multiple cars all closely watched.

kinda like the old brockie polariser.

Yeah agreed i doupt one could actually tell the difference. Also some of the feedback ive heard is in relation to fuel consumpotion, not just power. Chances are people never took note of comsumption before fitting their cyclone :P

Can someone fill me in on the polariser? I think it was a bit before my time.

Well the best way I can think of to explain it is this....back in the eighties Brocky had a guru who told him .....fit this device to your car and you can't lose.
Now to the best of my knowledge it was a little black box attached to the firewall with a couple of wires hanging out of it that did nothing.....but the psychological advantage it was supposed to give was to say the least over rated.
Cams banned it.

I can't help but think if this hiclone technology was all that good, surely engine manufacturers around the world would be using a similar design many moons ago.

I think its snake oil.

I have tried a variant of the Hiclone, although the one I tried had an actual bearing on a shaft, running a propellor, but essentially the same thing, and there was sweet FA difference in anything at all, or so I thought. I was living in central QLD at the time, and it did make a difference to fuel economy, to the tune of about 40 odd kays a tank, and it did make a little improvement in mid range torque, but only minor, and whilst I never felt a difference when it was on there for the 12 odd months, when I took it off, thinking it was a restriction in the inlet tract, I couldnt turn the tyres in 3rd gear through my favorite stretch of road and fav. corner anymore, and the only difference was the Hiclone, so..........
Even so, I am still skeptical on power increase, but there is a definate fuel increase.

I might dig it up and have another go, its here somewhere, or anybody else here is Brissy is welcome to grab it and do some testing.

my old man put one on his I6 EF, and said instantly he felt a drop in mid to high rev performance with no fuel economy change, boxed it up and sent the bitch back.
One of my mates put one on his Turbo Diesel Land Cruiser and said its noticable power increase and better economy by about 40km a tank on hwy.
He said the place he bought it off said they tested them, and only got a gain of some sort out of the forced inducted cars

the way i see it is if it was siting in top of a carby it would mix the fuel/air better but in any other situation it would do jack shit like on my dads range rover it made the car slower i think

Mmm. I dont think they would seel it if it didnt make a difference. Whether its noticable or not is another thing. If you want substantial gains you have to spend money.

Well, if its good for even a few kw I'm sure JMM, APS, Herrods, G&D, Hallam etc etc etc would be fitting them.....thats if the factory wasnt fitting them first.

Any of the major performance houses fitting them? Nope! There you go, question answered.

it seems as some ppl have had same gains all be it small ones and others say that there is none , so i'll be saving my money .

Ask yourself this question. If it really does work, why don't the car manufacturers use the same principle in their cars? A bit of tin jammed in the intake hose is not going to achieve more than a modern computer controlled fuel injection system.

There have been heaps of these things over the years. My father in law bought something about 15 years back that was supposed to cut your fuel consumption by at least 20%. He swore by it. I borrowed it and installed it on my 351 4WD F100. I scientifically tested the thing for 3 tanks of fuel. No difference at all. A crock, just like the rest of them.
