Sorry to hear you are having those issues.
Sounds like you did well to negotiate back to the cost of the battery.
If it does fail any time in the next three months, I would be asking for a refund for a battery you didn't need to buy, because it did not fix the issue.
Btw: what does the alarm even sound like? Never heard mine!
