Earthing must be the shortest cable to chassis you can get and make sure you have sufficient (bare metal) chassis exposed to the bolt point of your headunit earth cable. Bolting the cable onto painted chassis won't help.
I had the awful whining noise which I fixed up last week. The noise was eliminated using the above procedure which was advised by my workmate.
