People put up with it a lot easier than putting up with spending over $100 to replace it only to have the brand new one do exactly the same after 6 months or less. All depends how deep your wallet is I s'pose.

The carbon canister holds fuel impregnated vapour that is present in your fuel tank - when the engine temp is normal, the ECU opens the solenoid to allow this vapour to pass through the engine under vacuum via the manifold and thus be burnt. It is to stop "emissions" that would be harmful to the dolphins.
