Force Air Recirculate

Is there a way to do this?
It seems after a while it just goes back to taking air from outside.
Now normally that's no so bad as I can turn it back on pretty quick but now with the bushfires it's especially bad with air pollution.
I don't understand the logic. Am I missing something here?
