They are hard to find because most were in Transit vans which were either torched in frustration or converted to Falcon 250 6's that used less fuel and went about 450% better. I believe you will find a stash of them at Bobbin Head in Sydney where they were exclusively used as boat anchors.
Bit harse, but not far off the truth. The V4 was never meant to be a performance motor (about the same power to weight ratio of the pinto, but had more torque.) Basically a V6 with 2 pot chopped off. Would make an excellent retro conversion for an Mk 1 Escort. If I could find one, I'd put one in my van. :eclipsee_
