Default Re: Biggest local recall in automotive history - To be announced today

Out of interest though . In my AU built in April 2001 , would the driver and passenger airbags be likely still okay in terms of functionality. Have heard that they do have a finite lifespan and some crowds advocate replacement after several years. . If any truth in that , its a bloody wonder that the Government don't impose a mandatory replacement or re certification every so many years then isn't it ?

Further to that do later model cars show fault codes for airbags other than they are electronically connected. Just because they're in place correctly and the relays to operate are showing as okay does that mean necessary that the propellant mixture inside is still totally functional if /when it deploys.

Imagine if you did legally have to replace or have them re certified at regular intervals a bit like with fire extinguishers and dealerships on pre owned cars had to document that for insurance and liability purposes before selling on. Expensive perhaps certainly added on to your purchase.
